Biography of Nasir al-Din al-Tusi

Nasir al-Din al-Tusi, also known as Khajeh Nasireddin Toosi or simply Toosi, was born on February 24, 1201 in Tus, Khorasan, which is now part of Iran. He was a Persian polymath and prolific writer who excelled in various fields of knowledge, such as mathematics, astronomy, physics, philosophy, theology, medicine, ethics, logic, etc. He is considered to be one of the greatest Persian scholars of the Islamic Golden Age and one of the most influential figures in the history of science and engineering.

The construction of the Maragheh Observatory, one of the largest and most advanced astronomical observatories in the world at that time, where he supervised a team of scientists and engineers who made significant discoveries and contributions to astronomy, such as the Tusi-couple, a mathematical device that solved the problem of the planetary motion, and the Zij-i Ilkhani, a star catalogue that contained the positions and magnitudes of 994 stars.
